| Prom Gown Scam |
| My niece and I went to Fara Bridal in White Plains, NY for their “stellar reputation” they claim to have with customers. I wanted my niece to be treated with the “utmost respect that the highly motivated, caring consultants and service providers are trained to give.” When I called to see if they carried large size gowns in size 12/14, the sales woman's answer was, “oh honey, that’s not large”, and that made me feel like Fara Bridal would be the store that made my 17 year old niece feel good, rather than self conscious about her body size and shape. Our experience at the store was just what we were hoping for. The saleswomen made the shopping experience positive. My niece tried on and fell in love with the Alyce design size 12 ‘sample’ pink gown. She did not want the gown in pink and we noticed that Fara had in the display window this same ‘sample’ gown in lavender but it was a size 16. Our shopping experience just kept getting better and better, my niece’s favorite color is purple and she found a gown that fit her perfect. The saleswoman informed me that the size 12 lavender Alyce gown had to be ordered. I agreed to pay in full for a new Alyce design size 12 lavender gown.
Three weeks later, when we went back for the fitting, I noticed that the hip area, where the skirt begins was pleated and didn’t fit properly. It was not as flattering as the ‘sample’ size 12 pink gown my niece tried on. Upon closer inspection I could see that this was not a new size 12 lavender gown but a larger size that had been altered down to a size 12. At the time of the fitting, I did not want to make my niece feel self conscious or feel like a burden so I did not bring this to Fara's attention in front of her. At this time, the gown still needed to be hemmed and I paid in full for the additional alteration fee.
I feel if Fara Bridal could not provide me with a new lavender size 12 Alyce design gown, which I was under the impression was being ordered, they should have given me the choice to cancel the order or to accept the altered size 16 to a size 12 lavender ‘sample’ gown. By not contacting me on this situation and not delivering a specially ordered gown and substituting a larger gown that was altered down to a size 12, I feel they did not live up to their reputation and were very dishonest in the way they handled my order. Fara Bridal provided me with a Prom gown that I would not have paid so much for or had I known that they were making such extensive alterations to a ‘sample’ gown. Nor would I have paid for the additional hemming fee. When I went to pick up the gown I politely asked to speak to the manager to request that they admit to their dishonesty and to request that the cost of the gown be adjusted. The manager did not accommodate me in any way, she talked in circles about alterations and never denied the fact that the Prom gown was never order. She knew she sold me a sample gown for full price and did not adjust the cost. If you read other reviews on Fara Bridal you will see that I am not the only person they have scammed and overcharged. |
